The backlight provides enough illumination so that it's easy to operate in a low light situation. After you get this set up, you never have to worry about pointing the remote again. You basically end up with a turbo-charged remote that gets your commands where you want them. I got mine from Buy.com for 80 dollars and that included free shipping! I would highly recommend this remote. You can keep your other remotes in a safe place until you update your components and resell them.
